Sausage makes it better...
2 boxes mix, 1/2lb. sausage, 1/4lb. chicken, 1/2cup chopped bacon, 1 small onion--diced.

in a pinch, this will do..
throw some extra galic and some rasta bell peppers, try this everyone... put the beans in the water while the water is still cold, then heat it up and cook as per instructions, the extra soak gets the beans to fully cook. - Hawaii'an Ryan , posted 12/10/06

It'll do in a pinch.
The best thing to do is to ditch the beans (they never get cooked thru well enough using the mix) and soak your own overnight, then boil slowly 3 or 4 hours, then add the mix without the beans and follow directions. Add some sauteed garlic, pepper, and garlic in olive oil or butter. C'est magnifique! Add a ham hock in beans while you are cooking them or a piece of salt fat pork.
Now that's what we like about the South!
On the other hand, some hot sausage in Zat's dirty rice is to die for, straight out of the box! - neal , posted 11/30/06

It's ok as a substitute
Yeah, it's ok, but I like my homemade stuff better. But the box mix will do in a pinch. I'm probably the only one that would notice the difference anyway... - Valera , posted 11/27/06
