hey, they don't sell transfats
Everyone likes to beat up on the corporate beast, and many uberhealthies like to beat up on Wild Oats. I am no different in many respects, but Wild Oats still has something going for it.

Maybe it's that fatalistic feeling you get when your revolution has been commodified, or perhaps it's that sinking feeling that no matter how much more extra-super-duper-holier-than-me you try to be, you're still contributing to the man's agenda, you're still degrading someone somewhere, and you just can't avoid being at least a small part of the capitalist-militaristic-exploitation-syndicate.

When that feeling overwhelms you but you still want some food that won't poison you or be chock-full of murder, simper on over to Wild Oats.

They have local produce, they have lots of organic everything, they have a deli, they have cool and friendly workers, and like most of the health food stores, they have good prices on some things and are overpriced on others.

Some folks will say that Wild Oats is destroying small, local shops and putting small food producers out of business by offering their own namebrand lines of many products.

But if we're going to go down (and we are, even if you recycle and save your shower water to flush your toilet with), isn't it nice to slurp on some corporate shaft that tastes like organic soy milk? - Sioen , posted 06/18/05
