Can't get enough buffet
I am a regular @ veggie house, I wanted to inform the vegan asian fake meat types who are posting a couple of things. First Portland has another great place (even better?) in deep SE at 85th and Division called Van Hanh. So great and while you are there go get all that vegan meat and more ( just read your labels) at Fubon. (on 82nd and Woodward 5 blocks South of division) The only thing that scares me about vegetarian house is that about half of their "meats" ion their cooler aren't vegan.(they have ads in the willy week that say the lunch buffet is all vegan all the time, this is why I don't order of the menu very much) Also the oil they fry is canola and I haven't seen a no GMO pledge at their resturant. (or on the cases of oil) But I can eat about ten pounds of food for 6.50 and the way I eat there is no contest where to go during lunch downtown on weekdays. As to the one posting who thought the food was "over-cooked glop" they should understand how the cooking of food has been the humans way of making food digestable over the last few hundred thousand years or so. I love the Vegetarian House. They are so creative with thier menu & truly cater to vegans! Yay!!!! The staff are very nice & helpful. They only thing that is concerning is the fried food, it feels so fattening, but I'll be stoppin in for that yummy fatt feelin deliciousness real soon! - AngeLove , posted 09/26/06

S'ok, s'not great, take the meat home with you
I eat here on occasion, and I *am* somewhat delighted simply that there is a mostly vegan Chinese place for chowing.

I find most of their recipes uninspired, though, and only kinda good. I like the atmosphere, sorta odd and quiet in a pleasant way. The service is fine, especially as most times I've gone it's pretty slow in there.

There's a place like this in Eugene, with similar fake meat products - Lotus Garden - which has much better recipes and flavors.

My favorite part of Veggie House, though, is to buy the meats out of the freezer and take them home and make my own super amazing recipes with them. Yum yum! - Sioen , posted 01/10/06

Yum!
So...one of my favorite places of all time is Buddha's Delight, in Brookline MA. Being such, I can't say enough how stoked I was to find Vegetarian House. Not the same, b/c Buddha's was Viet, but with that in mind...Chinese style vegetarian food. YUM!! I still find the vibe a bit weird...it's very smallish and I can't help but wonder about it...but the food is mmmmmmmwwwwwwaaaaaaaahhhhhhh. Delightful! Never been disappointed, and I am rather a snob. I think a lot of the Chinese food 'round here blows, but not Vegetarian House. Good stuff. And they take good care of my baby.

I pro'lly have to go there now. It's on the brain... - Mike , posted 12/31/05

Where's the prana?
O.K., I've only eaten here once, and I haven't been a vegetarian for many years. I still like fresh food though, and all I got here was glop.
I kept wondering why it has gotten such good reviews? Is it because people are just so happy to have a vegetarian place, did I come on a bad day? I don't know, but I can say that I don't much like string beans from a can, and pure starch. - joan , posted 12/25/05

damn tasty vegan food
the only thing stopping me from giving this place 5 stars is the location - its just inside the chinatown gate in downtown pdx, which means its unfortunately spitting distance from a big sketchy porn store, & its next door neighbor is an asian butcher shop =P eeeeeew! that said, the restaurant is lovely inside, very clean & peaceful. everything there is veggie, i think the only non-vegan thing on the menu is a fake crab puff w/ cream cheese... they have an incredible array of fake meat (which can also be purchased to take home for your own recipes) some of which is better than others. the fake chicken (orange chicken, lemon chicken, & sesame chicken) is A+++ fantastic!!! their fake beef is good too, the fake crab isn't bad, & the fake fish & shrimp aren't really to my liking but could be much worse. also, they offer brown rice during dinner, which is wonderful =)

i highly recommend the dirt cheap lunch buffet - @ $6 for all you can eat healthy veggie chinese food? fuck yes! - omphaloskeptic , posted 10/20/05

Great fake meat!
I've really missed the great vegetarian Chinese food in the Bay Area since I moved up here. The lemon chicken is excellent, if a bit spendy. - Maggie , posted 10/17/04

All Vegetarian Chinese
They have a nice lunch buffet that orients you to their style of cooking. There's also a large menu to order from. The staff are friendly and helpful. My favorite item thus far is the pepper salted "squid". - Tom , posted 09/11/04
