Excellent Food, pitiful management when I was there.
Red Star does have excellent food. The reason for the three stars is that when I was there I had the organic salad. As with things that are organic, sometimes there are critters on them. This one happened to be one big green bug that scared the crap (figuratively) out of me when it jumped off my fork to the center of the table. It waited around long enough for the manager to see it. His response was a somewhat lacking "sorry about that." Nothing was comped on the bill--not even the ice tea. I haven't been back since, and that was quite a few years ago. - onlineKyle , posted 12/15/07

Small Town Organic Chic in a Citified Tavern
One of my mentors --operabuff -- and his partner took me to my first excellent breakfast in Portland. It reminded me of home, both Ollatum and Portland. A nice juxtaposition. I had asagio grits and asparagus with some grand cornbread. I have since gone several times for times when it is a treat, because it is a little pricey. But the best thing is that it is kitty korner to Ross and Macy's right in downtown, in perhaps, the best places to find parking in the downtown core (because everybody thinks it is a construction zone). Next time I go, I want to meet the chef who weaves such magic in his meals.... and stay for a night in the hotel. We will see. - HeartH , posted 12/13/07
