Rake Art Gallery SUCKS
Rake Art Gallery S U C K S, it is on its gliding course, bummer...
Well as an art viewer in portland who's been in the scene seeing stuff for a while was ummmm... expecting that...
First off, the website keeper needs to make use of the spell checker.
Second, the mission statement is yeah YAK YAK YAK, doesn't make any sense!, there's too much BS.
+ look at thier website (www.rakeart.org) it's, ummmm, sucks..
Third it's not in an upscale area, the air is still infiltrated with the smell of pee. OH, don't go in the gallery restroom, it is really icky!! beaware.
FOURTH, it is not, I repeat not furthering the evolution of society, its more furthering the longevity of the curator's livelyhood as a scenster in the art scene. Emerging artists' task - make him look good, he'll take anybody's work.
FIFTH, it's a DIY gallery, if it ain't got professional curators on board things can't go blow your mind... it always turns hippie dippie.
Sixth, yeah i'll go walk in, and then head to a more reputable mind blowing gallery like Portland Art Center, Tilt or Compound.
Nothing is innovative about the stuff in there...have they sold anything recently?.... i thought so.
Seventh, now it's just another gallery on the block that might just close down soon,
Eighth, how does the curator conjure up how the group show narrates together? maybe he needs to write a STATEMENT in order for art goers to understand how he connects artists artworks. So artists knows that what they mean about their art work is what the curator is also saying when selling thier pieces vs BS-ing conundrums.
Ninth, Rake, 3RD YEAR,,, well it should already know how to evolutionize itself without financially relying on "Trust Fund Kids" being brain washed to spend their money to keep RAKE financially stablize. Words are cheap, let check the books if it is really stable... hmmmmm....
and YELP, rather than evolutionizing society, it can't go doing that until RAKE figures how to evolutionize itself so its not a walk in and the next day gone type of gallery on the block.
My oppinion is that " the hipsters have left the building"
and all have moved on to next best thing.
WHAT WOULD BE COOL is a new owner & curator to buy out RAKE and run the space w/ what it needs and thats PROFESSIONALISM in the art business to build structure for emerging young artists.
Soooon, i hope :
