most authentic ethiopean food
this humble restaurant continues to blow my mind. after many times visiting, the vegetarian platter and ginger beverage is still my favorite meal. the injera bread has a mouth watering texture and sourdough taste to it. a very aromatic atmoshphere of hand roasted ethiopean coffee and traditional spices satisfies every sense. i also reccomend the dry honey wine and chickpea cracker stew. this restaurant stands #1 on my favorite places to eat in portland. - chelsea , posted 03/19/08

Best Ethiopian EVAH!
Seriously. I've tried a couple of the "other" Ethiopian joints in town & nothing comes close to Da Queen. Except maybe Massawa in SF, but that doesn't count. - Unsubscribed , posted 09/22/06

Fantastic Ethiopian Veggie Delights
Wow. I've been here twice, most recently today. Frankly, I just can't get enough! This place is too good. Like...too good. Oh my goodness, it's just so good. We ordered the veggie sampler. Got pretty much every veggie item on the menu. The mushrooms were particularly delightful, though it was the cabbage and beans that spoke the loudest to me today. The cabbage, with a slight curried spice, was really phenomenal.

I've always had a penchant for Ethiopian, but frankly, I think that all one needs is a taste for spice and a bit of adventure - eating with fingers can be a bit weird.

My partner is from Nawlins, and she mentioned that cooked greens, of which we had some today too, make for a special and good-luck NYE treat. So we ate our collards, and a bunch of phat lentils too.

Service was great, but we were the only peeps in there. Still, the woman who served was very friendly, and even engaged us in a bit of cultural banter re: the country and the customs.

Yup. Great. - Mike , posted 12/31/05

Me rikey berry much!!!
I love this place. So here are some of the reasons:
>the guy who owns the place (gigi I think is his name) RULES. He is such a nice guy. He started it after going to OSU first as a grocery store, and now he's having some financial success (I hope) with a newly expanded restaurant.
>They have an awesom selection of bottled beers. It used to be that you could go up to the cooler and serve youself, but the OLCC got their head out of the butt long enough to notice and put and end to that. BUT it was rad while it lasted.
>The food is delicious, and encompasses a wide range of comlpementary spicings and textures. My favorite is a lentil cracker in a spicy stew. You combine the sponginess of the enjera, the saucieness of the stew, and the dense cakey texture of the lentl cracker... it's awesome. I could go on and on, but I _will_ say that going here in a group is waaaay fun. - Unsubscribed , posted 10/14/05

well...
the first time I went to this restaurant it was two tables in the back of a grocery store....It has blossomed amazingly and I love i..I am not especially fond of a particular person who works there but it is simply because all the other folks who work there and especially the folks who have been around since the beginning are sooo wonderful that in comparison the way this persons service skills have been really pissed me off at a certain point and I dont why they still work there...However I visit ethiopian restaurants in every town I go to...including all the ones in Portland and many in Sanfrancisco and queen of sheba is the only one that makes my favorite dish. There is a restaurant in Oakland that compare in the Misr Wat area but no others; on some nights Jarra's is better, sometimes it isn't and I think it evens out. Queen of Sheba has the best Kik wat that I have ever had and seriously Ive been to alot of places....But shhhh! Its my secret. - onlinerose , posted 08/09/05
