Putumayo World Music rocks the Casbah
If you like world music, you might want to check out Putumayo. The CDs are collections of various artists, with really great *now*-age music using traditional instruments. I remember when I was a kid having a record album of songs from around the world and how much fun it was to sing songs in other languages: Japanese, German, Spanish, Greek. I wanted my granddaughter to have that fun too, so I bought her a Putumayo children's CD, "World Playground". She just loves it! She can sing the songs, too. She sings "Fatou Yo" in Mandingo and taught it to her friends at school and sang "Nyampi Matilda" (Waltzing Matilda) in Aborigini for me on the phone.
I bought a couple for myself. I especially like the Lounge/Groove CDs. Celtic Crossroads is pretty good. Sahara Lounge is fantastic, especially the song "Elama" by Yasser Habeeb. I actually ordered a whole CD by him, I was so impressed. You can hear a clip of "Elama" it here if you want: www.putumayo.com/catalog/item.php
Just wanted to pass on this great find, in case you never heard of Putumayo.
