Good God I love Powell's
My son and I spend far too much money and waaaay too much time in Powell's whenever we go to PDX. We both love the labrinthine feel of the place and the kick ass people who work there. If we could, we'd have a bedroom in one of the sections and never leave. - mara , posted 04/05/06

BEST DAMN BOOK STORE, PERIOD!
How could you NOT find what you're looking for when you have the equivalence of about 5 city blocks worht of books to search through. The only problem I've ever had was trying to find a particular book within the madness of books that is Powells. Don't let this detour you. I only say this cause I'm not one to ask where it is i'd rather find it on my own.

This is the best place to find any sort of book. - DoJe , posted 06/17/05

Best BookStore In Town!
I should know I used to work there! Best selection hands down. If I'm looking for a specific title to just to browse I go to Powell's! The people there are there to help.. if one person doesn't know what you're talking about someone else will! Powell's is a never ending pool of knowledge! Why buy it new when you can get it used!?! - *~*G*~* , posted 06/02/05

Really great place
They have absolutely the widest selection of books ever! The one in downtown has three floors and about 10 large rooms each dedicated to a number of different types of books. (Neo)-Pagans will want to check out the metaphysics section of the Red Room--it's excellent.

They've got the goods, baby.
This is the mothership of bookstores. I've a taste for older publishings and they've always a few options when looking under a single title. Buy or sell, though I mainly just buy. There is also a coffee shop, but I've stopped there only once; a gallery with rotating artworks and readings by authors periodically get me there occationally, too. - Unsubscribed , posted 06/01/05

Where to find Abstract Expressionism info.
Powell's is the largest bookstore in the US. They also specialize in rare and out of print books. Go to their website and type in a variety of subjects ("Abstract Expressionism / Expressionists" , "American Abst. Exp.", "German Abst. Exp.", specific artist names- etc.). I guarantee you'll find a lot of info here. Good luck! - Monica , posted 04/27/05
