The Best Five-Dollar Lunch...Anywhere, Damned It!
Look, I'm soooo picky about restaurants. It is really painful, actually. For 1, I guess it's because I cook, ya know? Crap!
It's just that I don't understand how anyone could be anything but disappointed when they go out and pay too much money for a mediocre meal. When you have some decent cooking experience/skills and you walk away knowing that you could have whipped up a much better meal, even on a bad day, it makes you just want to give up going out to eat, period.
Well, campers, I'm so happy to say that one little Southeast establishment has made eating out fun again. No Fish! Go Fish! is about the best damned li'l restaurant I've ever been to....well, for brunch and lunch, anyway (I've not checked out dinner.)
The big attraction, for me, is their $5 lunch special. Yes, you heard it, folks, five dollars. There may not be any such thing as a free lunch but, I'll guarantee you won't be sorry if you give these cordial, Cordon Bleu chefs a whirl.
For a mere fin you receive a large bowl of homemade "Soup Of The Gods" (choose from 4) and 2 No Fish! sandwiches...your choice of fillings. First, the soup is so fantastic. Made from scratch, the selection changes daily and draws from a menu of 108 recipes ranging from the unusual, CHILLED WATERMELON & BLACKBERRY, to the exotic, CREAM OF MUSHROOM & ASPARAGUS W/ CHAMPAGNE & TRUFFLE OIL, to downright, down homey comfort food, CHICKEN NOODLE W/ FENNEL AND LEEK & Chili.
The No Fish! sandwiches are actually a snack-sized, cornmeal-based "waffle" baked in the shape of a fish.
Choices of fillings include, Spinach & Feta, Tomato & Mozzarella, Cheddar, Black Olive with Basil & Garlic, Refried Bean with Pico de Gallo, Cream Cheese & Pepperoncini, Ham & Cheese, Turkey & Cheese, Egg & Cheese, Egg & Pico de Gallo, Chocolate & Caramel, Banana & Chocolate, Apple & Cinnamon, Berry.
My favorite filling is the Cream Cheese & Pepperoncini, with the Spinach & Feta running a close second. The fruit filling are a newer addition...I haven't tried any of those yet. Since it's cheap to add more NF! sandwiches to your lunch special why not mix-and-match?
Try bring home a bag of assorted No Fish! sandwiches for appetitizers for company...they reheat nicely. - (user is online now)
