re: boycot the sushi industry in portland!
I agree that True World Foods is a scary company that should be avoided. I read the WW article last summer as well. I think many of us want to support sustainability and good politics etc and still eat some friggin' sushi.
Here's what I want to know: Exactly which fish varieties come from True World Foods? Because I'm willing to stop eating those fish in particular. I don't want to punish our local restaurants with a boycot, I want to encourage them to get fish from the best places they can.
I stopped eating sea urchin when I found out that the urchins can easily be 50-200 year old individuals. - Erico , posted 11/15/06

boycot the sushi industry in portland!!
Seriously, boycot sushi in portland until SOMEONE starts getting their fish from ANYONE other then uber conservative wacko cultist reverend Moon's company "True World Foods."

Mio and ALL of the other place in town get their fish from True World Foods it's not a sustainable company and the money is going some really bad places. if you give a crap about politics, the environment, your ethics, BOYCOT mio sushi and all other sushi places in town!

Never disapointed, but also not inspiring either...
I love good sushi, and Mio is a good staple. Thier Sunny specials are indeed unique, but the rest seemed to me as pretty run of the mill... I won't turn down their food, but I rarely seek them out either. - Samuel , posted 10/08/06

Good but not amazing
For generic sushi it's ok. The "Sushi Pizza" didn't appeal to me, overall I would eat there but I'm not raving about it. - ~Ian~ , posted 10/07/06

not the best sushi in town, but you can't beat it for the price and atmosphere (only been to the one on Hawthorne). - Marc , posted 01/27/06

ho hum
I find it mediocre. While their rolls are solid, they have a tendency to douse their nigirisushi in bizzarre salad dressing. If I want a slice of raw snapper doused in Newman's own creamy italian, I'll ask for it. Sometimes they add dollops of sriracha sauce that may be appropriate for spicy tuna, but not on a piece of nigiri. A bowl of noodles I had there was equally uninspiring, with lump of gray beef(?) floating in a generic stock. They get points for modern decor over at the Hawthorne branch. But all in all no better and no worse than Koji Osakaya. - Unsubscribed , posted 10/14/05

Mio Yum
Mio Sushi on 40th & SE Hawthorne rocks.

The service is outstanding, and consistent. The sushi is fresh and well made with good presentation and excellent green tea rounds out the experience.

For something really unique:

For something really unique, try the Sunomo salad of cucumbers, arame seaweed, octopus and shrimp. I highly suggest this place if your near hawthorne, fun and good prices! - Michael , posted 06/17/05

Best Sushi in NW Portland
Mio is great. Located in an old house just off 23rd, it has wonderful sushi and a comfortable, laid-back attitude. It can be very busy on weekdays and weekends, so you may have to wait for a table. - Sara , posted 02/02/05
