 If you want dhal, saffron, Indian cola or frozen papadum in Portland this is the place to go. Other stores out in Beaverton may be bigger, but this one is nicey located for Portland residents. They have what you need at good prices. - Todd , posted 06/25/08 |

After closing the Hawthorne space due to a family emergency, India 4 U has reopened at 3649 SE Belmont St. The space is small, and they are still adding stock and adjusting to the size, but the cozy shop is full of hard-to-find culinary imports, and the wonderful proprieters are extremely friendly and helpful. Walk in and they will immediately strike up a conversation with you, ready to answer any question and happy just to chat. The rumor is that they will begin serving samosas and chai at some point, perhaps this summer. I love this spot; they have great bulk spices, (cheap!!) chapati flour, chutneys, and daal, as well as incense, bollywood movies and alluring curios. Check it out. - Mally , posted 03/06/08 |

This is a good Indian store to buy chilies, curry leaves, frozen goods, spices, cookware, etc. The husband and wife who own it are awesome people and the husband cooks all the food in the ajoining cafe. His food is spicy so order some raita, or drink some Mango Lassi while eating. The place is located on Hawthorne just past Metro. - Unsubscribed , posted 05/30/06 |
