tart rocks. sometimes the music is better than other nights but the view is always nice. holocene's smoking room allows smokers to still have fun but the rest of us don't have to smell any smoke, and we can all check each other out... - Ha , posted 08/15/05 |

They play all sorts of great music at halocene. Its a great scene and everyone is pretty damn friendly. There's usually no cover before 10. A good place to grab some friends and some drinks once you get there to shake your booty. -DoJe - DoJe , posted 06/17/05 |

I like the place -- lots of different people there and it's way trans friendly which to me is very important (I'm an older tranz guy - yes we do exist (older I mean) lol!). I like the music and the events - it is a great place to see people having fun. - Unsubscribed , posted 06/17/05 |

Go here for SissyBoy, or Grizzly Bear or any other show. I've been to numerous functions here and it's just a great vibe and lots of crazed fun, laughter and sillyness. - Kirk , posted 06/01/05 |

This place is my favorite because it's so chill. If you get tired of the 'frat' type crowd at most pdx dance clubs, you might enjoy holocene. It's got places to sit around the dance floors, plus plenty of space to dance and high ceilings that keep it from getting too sweaty. Plus, major bonus, no smoking except in the cozy little smoke room. - Unsubscribed , posted 03/11/05 |

I love this bar. I love the open spaces, just wish Diva would come back. I'm still waiting for some DJ's on dyke nights there *sigh*, but I love the space and they have nice bathrooms!! - Lisa , posted 01/30/05 |

I guess if a person goes out on a Saturday night with a "This-club-is-gonna-change-my-entire-existence" kind-of-attitude, he/she is going to be disappointed. Holocene provides some (mostly) decent talent and a blank canvass for you to go out and act out on, and that's about it. No rooms full of rubber balls, no lobster tails in your drinks, but if you like to be in control of the destiny of your evening, it's a good place to start. The bar staff are super nice, too. There's definately some gnarly, sketchy clubs in this town that make it uncomfortable for girls to go out alone in, and Holocene isn't one of them. - Tenacious , posted 01/23/05 |

C'mon, folks. This place tries so hard to be trendy it hurts. It caters primarily to the tourists and the recently-arrived, desperate to find a "scene" to be seen at. Drinks are very overpriced and mediocre quality, food is overpriced and abysmally prepared. Holocene is an example of the trend formula--start with flash, price everything as high as possible, then sell before the flash ends. Watch closely as it disappears in 12-18 months, converted to something else. - James , posted 01/23/05 |

shortly after moving to portland i discovered holocene and was pleasantly surprised that a club in portland could easily surpass one of my favorite (now defunct) austin clubs, texture. - Tanjent , posted 12/20/04 |

I don't care who goes there, or what....as long as I can see Halo play on Jan 7th, I rate this club 5 stars!!! - Zsa , posted 12/19/04 |

Very happening place. I've met some cool people here. Plus, they have some great acts come through--like Ratatat. Sometimes in the late evenings there are a lot of yuppy type peeps in there. They're usually ushered out by a younger hipper crowd as the night begins. Please don't tell anyone about it. - Rob , posted 10/07/04 |

Definitely one of the best places to go for dancing. I agree with jeromeo (josepha), cool atmosphere, laid-back, non pretentious, smoking in lil room, and a great variety of events. Breakfast of Champions reigns supreme - do not miss it! Only complaints: long drink lines and sound quality could be better (its a retrofitted warehouse). Great space, ffffriendly staff, tasty (decently-priced) drinks, and visuals...always cool visuals. - rafa , posted 10/02/04 |

Without all of the the stupid glitzy lights, and usual club bells and jangles. just a chill atmosphere, with a great variety of music. :) Warehouse style setting, with modern decor.. and good beer on tap. - DreadBeat , posted 09/30/04 |

I went on a saturday night. It was fun. The bathroom has an opaque window above the sinks so you can see the sillouhette of the girls washing their hands, and vice versa. It's a cool idea. The club looks recently renovated and it has a warehouse feel...not too crowded and not too hot because the ceilings are so high. The DJ's were spinning some house music with an indian influence, which I really enjoyed, but they seemed to mix in the same song over in over which was a little bit too much of a good thing. The dancing was fun and the crowd was pretty friendly. Overall I enjoyed it. - J. Swayze , posted 09/29/04 |

I love the vibe here
my favorite place is holocene. I love the vibe there - the staff is not only fetching but supernice to boot! {imagine} i'm having good luck w friday nights, and Breakfast of Champions is not to be missed. As far as special events go, check out events created/promoted by Kaosmosis (kaosmosis.com) They're a bargain as far as original/conceptual performance/visual work w/ bootyshakin to follow. good luck. it's tough out here. - Unsubscribed , posted 06/01/04 |
