food is pretty good, service kind of sux!
i enjoyed the last meal i had there, my waitress was cute and nice too. Then, i went downstairs to see music...came back up to the bar and got a drink from a very rude butchy type bartender lady. i ordered a mojito and it tasted like water w/mint in it. i was so intimidated by the bartender, i asked the host for help. she tried, but she got frightened. then the bartender was such a b****.....i dont get it when people are rude to you when they work off of tips! i kiss ass for my tips....ughhh! - ~crisea~ , posted 07/06/07

Yum Mac & Chez
If you live in PDX you know this place for food and music. I had never been so I went one Sunday morning with my hung over roomie and we of course had to wait an hour to get in. It was ok though cause the lounge was very nice with a 70's ski lodge atmosphere. It had had couch seating areas with fire places and a bar. Try the Cowboy Coffee. Its a good blend of coffee and liquor.

When we did sit down the staff was nice and the food came quickly. I had some yum mac&cheese that was home made with breadcrumbs and all. I was full , but kept eating cause it was so rad.
So I say go and eat there. If you dont like it save it for me and ill eat it. - Ryan , posted 04/10/07

sucks
Yeah, this place was a real let-down. Morons at the door, fools inside. The service and vibe at the restaurant was slighly better than the bars. - Unsubscribed , posted 10/15/06

I used to hate it before it was hip to do so..
Let me just say that I am so hip, I have been disliking the Doug Fir WAY LONGER any of you hipsters who jumped on the bangwagon. I heard about it from an IPod twiddling co-worker just 2 weeks after it opened. I went to check it for a Friday night show, and the line was so full of pousers, I couldn't bring myself to go in. This place is anthesis everything that Portland is suposed to be about: chill, friendly, unpretentious, eclectic. - BrettFromTibet , posted 10/06/06

bad vibes...
...we were waiting in line and a friend of mine was blowing bubbles...a beautiful playful lady, inocently blowing bubbles in the air, not near anyone, not hitting anyone......the door guy nearly called in the national gaurd to take her down....i couldn't believe it was real...major negative TOOL he was....and yes ofcourse fake to the gills.....

The last place on earth to chill.........My friends played a gig there and got screwed by management....ya! for another overpriced wanna be hipster joint....barf!!!! - FLOW , posted 10/05/06

this place was a complete hoot
The door guy was nice and let us keep our helmets at his station, but everyone else we encountered there was a jerky wierdo, including our waitress, who responded to my order of something not on the menu like I was the biggest freak I'd ever seen.

Fortunately, this was just fine for me and my friend; we hung out in a makeout-corner booth, checked out the bar architecture, fondled that fake-fur covered brick wall, and gazed into the eyes of a plexiglass moosehead. I can't recommend you go there, unless you're on a pub crawl whose intention is to shock and awe the natives. However, for people watching, it's pretty funny. - Jenni , posted 07/11/06

I used to really like Doug fir
Now not so much. Got to jump on the WTF band wagon, here.
In a town this size tales of bad service, expensive not worth it food and a generally un- fun time gets around.

Too bad, Doug Fir is bordering of really sucking. I used to really love the timberline scramble.
Oh well. - , posted 03/24/06

I always hated it
Especially when I worked there.
The only two good things there are Ladybug and Fanny Mae. The drinks are overpriced and that architecture Wade likes so much is actually falling apart, take a moment to look behind the booth you are sitting at. Yuck, Yuck, Yuck.
Except, wait....that buffalo burger I have been craving the entire time I´ve been in South America. I have to admit it. - Erin , posted 03/23/06

I hate the place.......
the food isn't that great - they constantly change the menu - without actually UPDATING it so the customer can be aware of the changes......it's over priced as well.

Fannie Mae is the only reason I go to drug fir.......fun waitress!! - Sherry: Home , posted 03/23/06

Gin and Hookers
Just for the record, Doug Fir used to be a Little Black Sambos' before they covered it in faux fir and wood paneling to become some kind of over-priced playground for 20-something's on drugs.

Very Los Feliz -- If You Like That
Lot of bad reviews here, but I thought this place was pretty neat. (For the record, I'm an architecture buff so I admired the decor more than anything else. The architects transformed what was probably a Denny's into this sort of post-modern log cabin. Fun. I also hear the basement (where the acts play) has great acoustics, though I couldn't tell that they were special. We saw a comedian there, who mostly made vomiting sounds. Now _that_ was special. - Wade , posted 11/14/05

things have changed
it was midnight on sunday night and i ordered the fish and chips, { a meal that used to be hot and juicy, and they would serve a decent amount for under 10bucks} they brought me out a semi-warm serving of 2 pieces of extra-chewy over-cooked bla on top of a warm batch of soggy fries. they charged me 12.95...i could have gotten a better meal at Burgerville for half the price and twice as fresh and yummy! also the waiter took my drink order at 2 am then waited 7 minutes to bring it to me. after my first sip of a tasty after slop scotch, which was a good amount , except for the excess ice, the bouncer came to everyones table and took their drinks away. it was not even 2:15 and they failed to make a last call announcement...The doug fir seems to have been better when they first opened, atleast they allow you to drink outside, which is a plus...go team! - cyn·ful , posted 10/13/05

Rude
Our appetizers finally arrived after our dinner and when we were ready to leave. We asked to have the appetizers sent back and taken off our bill, they refused. The abusive waiter then argued with us about the preparation of an appetizer. Apparently it takes intricate preparation to fry food, which explains why it showed up for dessert. When we asked for his manager, he proclaimed that he was the manager. If it wasn’t bad enough that they were charging us for the onion ring dessert , they wanted to charge me for a coffee that they never brought to the table. I would avoid the restaurant. If you want to put up with jerks and pay for invisible coffee, the DF is for you. - Ben , posted 03/26/07

blah, blah, blah
didn't really find anything "wrong" with the place, but it's nothing special at all...

Their prices are rediculously high... but what can you do (?) - the place is one of those novilties - it's not a place normal people chill at often, it's attached to a hotel... it's a hotel lounge - Unsubscribed , posted 08/17/05

Nice People-Watching with Snack-age
Woof! Woof!! Bow-Wow!!!
For those who like barfood while they are ass-watching try DougFirLounge. I just had some dead cow and a side of fried tubers but it was pretty decent...the burger was smokey-good and the fries were slightly brownish and non-greasy...well, as non-greasy as something fried can be.

My only complaint was that the portions were smallish, prices are spendyish and, they won't let you take food from the bar menu (well, the bar menu prices/value/portions) to-go.

But I always find interesting folks to chat with, including some fit, down-to-earth, tan guys close to my age....in fact, this girl has had some down-right, hot connections at the DF...

Yeah, check out a show downstairs. Try one of their "free showcases" if you are sceptical...that way you are only out the price of some suds...

You won't be dissapointed...

If U R U R just a boring, unfun person who doesn't play well with other....

Doug Fir is not just for music....
I really like the restaurant at Doug Fir. Not many places with real quality food that are open until 4am every day. Great salads, famous french toast, yummy cocktails, and a killer milkshake. There could maybe be a little bit of a longer menu, but I feel safe ordering anything there. - Jess , posted 06/18/05
