Home...
This place is one of my usual stops when I am in Portland. It's like home, cool people, great food and drinks, and of course the art and music!

You can find me there often on a weekend. - Unsubscribed , posted 04/01/09

shitty drinks, bad food, worse service.... just kiddin, theyre the best!!!
the drinks are scrumptous and made proper (aside from the hot stuff i dig the mocha milkshake), the food is super bomb (especially the eggs-bene w bacon) mmmhm and the breakfast nachos..
but then there is the staff.. boring ugly people.. just kidding again. they are all super hot sauce and work their burner booties off to give you what you need. even if they've been up all night ragin with you before they have to work.... I truely love these people.. so check it out. - Jenessa , posted 03/31/09

Haven
Visiting from New York and falling into Chance Of Rain, as I walked the neighborhood. THIS is the place that I will be perched with laptop and coffee as soon as I get my ass to Portland. I haven't been as welcomed nor as impressed by the softsell groovines of a place in so many years. I also wanted to pounce one of the Baristas. - Eric , posted 09/22/06

Friends and coffee
Some places, you walk into and you feel disconnected. Not here. When I walk into Chance of Rain I feel welcome, have a good cup of coffee or soup, and always smile at the outlawing of games on the computer. One of the things I like best is that the staff seem to be good friends with just about everyone who goes in there. It's like your friends are making you coffee. - maaujai , posted 07/31/06

Check out the counter
It's one huge long piece of a big old tree. Wood should always be used beautifully like this!
The coffee is good, the food is good, the baristas are friendly and the atmosphere is laid-back; perfect for relaxing with tea or whatever. The perfect cafe. - russell , posted 06/28/06

don't forget movie nights!
i've taken several dates here, which is about the highest compliment i can pay these folks. lots of teas for my fellow tea drinkers. bring your laptop because there's only one desktop computer but free wifi. avoid the drones on hawthorne and just have a nice cup of tea! - nereus , posted 11/07/05

hawthorne's little secret
see this picture? its at burning man. this cafe closed for a week so that everyone could go. this place is great. its cheap.. its owned by a bunch of punk kids..the food is all local, fresh, usually organic. this is a great little spot that not many people know about. this good in many ways, but they're kids and I know they could use the money, so Im writing them this reccomendation. oh yea. free wi-fi too. and artist space for anyone that wants to show. - Samurai , posted 10/02/05

The Best Cafe west of the Mississippi; no joke.
Beyond excellent, friendly service and personalities and yummy, wholesome fare, the enduring, above-and-beyond of this cafe is the atmosphere.

It's different there. - Unsubscribed , posted 09/14/05

Totally rockin. Safe to say that all of the soups (no matter how weird-sounding) are totally delicious. Baked goods? Oh yeah. From the espresso brownies to the chocolate chip cookies, it's all on the up-and-yummy. Not to mention that everyone behind the counter can pull a wicked brew. - Benjamin , posted 05/24/05

Yo, this is as good as it gets!
Not only does this cafe have OUTSTANDING food, but their highly skilled staff works for basically nothing because they have tons of solid vibe for their art. As a former co-worker of some of the cooks, I must say they're the best in the business!! - Unsubscribed , posted 02/28/05

Super-skilled sous ninjas
Chance of Rain is the quintessential cafe without the cliche` of so many other coffee houses. Having frequented cafes all over the continent for over a decade, I feel confident in saying that Chance of Rain is my favorite. The baristas are well-skilled, the cuisine is delightful, and the atmosphere is artistically pleasing. As such, Chance of Rain also attracts an attractive amount of eclectic and open-minded customers. You should be one of them! - Unsubscribed , posted 02/28/05
