Better fast food
I try to avoid fast food for a myriad of reasons - my health, poor agricultural practices, low wages for employees all the way down the food chain, environmental wastefulness. Burgerville is the only fast food place I will eat at because they do it right, for the most part. The downside is that the prices reflect the better quality food - a burger and shake will cost you $10-11. So I splurge there every once in a while if I'm in a hurry or just feel like a fresh berry shake, but otherwise it seems a bit silly to pay so much for fast food. I've also been disappointed by the limited vegetarian options - just one veggie burger, maybe two, and a salad are the only options aside from sides. Once they were out of veggie burgers completely. - aleta , posted 09/02/08

Misleading
Actually I have never eaten in a Burgerville in the over ten years I've lived in Portland. This was on the advise of a friend. - Balor , posted 08/17/08

sometimes...
i'm a milkshake snob, very picky. when i found burgerville, milkshake is the first thing out of my mouth.
unfortunately, the initially upbead bubbly burgervillians automatically sound disappointed when i order just a shake. their ethos is perfecto, but 10 bucks for a fastfood meal is a bit much. so i just stick to the shake and make sure they wipe the cup down. little things like that will cost you a star. - onlinematty-m@ , posted 07/09/08

Maybe they're trying to support the regional paper industry?
The food's pretty good, I just wish their packaging lived up to their green aspirations, especially for dine-in. It's an awful lot of unnecessary paper to be throwing away at the end of a meal. - Unsubscribed , posted 07/07/08

Blackberry Milkshakes
I'm not a native Pac NWerner and I've always been grossed out by fast food. Burgerville is a whole different kind of burger chain. Meat, poultry and eggs that are local and more ethical than most. Sweet potato french fries and fantastic seasonal milkshakes. The staff is usually sweet too.

I miss Portland and all her weirdness ... NESS!

Best Practices for Fast Food
Growing up locally I've always sort of taken Burgerville for granted, although I've been pleased over the years as they have worked hard to promote local growers and producers such as through their use of Country Natural Beef and so on. When they decided to purchase all of their electricity through renewable offsets I suspected greenwash, but when they offered health-insurance to all six-month-plus employees who worked twenty hours a week or more and then started distributing subversive kids meal "toys" such as banks for saving and sharing with others, salmon-recovery coloring books and garden seeds, whoa!

Their food is great for the genre, with vegetarian options and free wi-fi. If you are new to the area or just have an opportunity to choose them while tooling around the area, check them out. They are not your average fast-food chain. - onlineMac Rory , posted 07/06/08
