Pedalpalooza, the big summer bike festival organized by Shift, needs events.
Shift stages relatively few events itself -- mostly Breakfast on the Bridges. Shift exists primarily to promote other peoples' rides, and provide advice if you've never organized a ride before. During Pedalpalooza, we like to have at least 140 events, of which only 4 are actually presented by Shift. The others are all organized by individuals or groups. Are you are an individual or group? If so, please consider adding your BICYCLE-RELATED event to the Pedalpalooza online calendar at www.shift2bikes.org/cal/viewpp2008.php
This year, Pedalpalooza is June 12-28, but the deadline for the printed calendar is May 1. You can add events to the online calendar after that, but they probably won't appear in the printed calendar. (The printed calendar will be inserted into the June 12 issue of The Portland Mercury.)
You can add an event now and edit it later. Even if you don't know all the details of your event, I recommend picking a date NOW and adding an incomplete version of your event to the calendar just to claim your day; this will help other people choose dates for their event so they don't conflict with yours. Alternatively, if you see an event on the calendar that might merge with yours, contact that event organizer and see what you can work out.
We want a huge variety of events. Here are examples that are already on the calendar...
* Kickoff Parade, June 12 (kid-friendly)
* Naked ride and dance party, June 14
* International Toward Carfree Cities Conference, June 16-20
* Sexy Cyclist ride, June 20
* Zombie Cycle Rampage, June 21
* Zoobomb Century, June 22
* Pizza Ride, June 23
* Multnomah County Bike Fair, June 28
Have more bike fun!
