In a nod to Portland's lurid history, the so-called Shanghai tunnels have been immortalized by travel writers, television shows and newspapers. Now it's OUR turn. Come be shanghai'd in style on New Year's eve at the Wonder Ballroom!
Everyone Orchestra hits the ground running in its new hometown with an exciting edition assembled from Portland, OR-based all star musicians, including EO founder/conductor Matt Butler, string legend Darol Anger, banjo prodigy and slide guitarist Tony Furtado, guitarist Scott Law, former Leftover Salmon bassman Tye North, Dirty Martini's Stephanie Schneiderman (Voices For Silent Disasters), the Motet’s Jans Ingber plus more special guests, live painters, stilters, hoopers, costumed fiends, dragons and YOU!
The event features a new band, Strings 4 Industry, composed of familiar faces - Tony Furtado, Darol Anger, Scott Law, Tye North, and the “intensely musical” (Los Angeles Times) Carlton Jackson on drums. Publicly, the band has played just a few events together including California’s High Sierra Music Festival and Colorado’s YarmonyGrass Festival. The feedback has been extraordinary. We are very honored to be hosting their New Year's Eve coming out party.
Joining them will be Pacific Northwest mainstays, The Freak Mountain Ramblers. The Freaks and their blend of rock 'n' roll, bluegrass, alternative country and country-blues are a Portland favorite. Their lineup includes former members of the Holy Modal Rounders/Clamtones amalgamation of the '70s and '80s. The Freaks have their roots in the underbelly of the alternative music scene here and across the country and are a welcome addition to the evening.
Ringing in the New Year will be Matt Butler's Everyone Orchestra. Butler has made a name for himself by organizing and conducting various lineups of top players from different bands under the name Everyone Orchestra. Past players have included Jon Fishman, George Porter, Melvin Seals, Steve Kimock, Jeff Sipe, Jamie Masefield, and members of the String Cheese Incident, to name a few.
